FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We get questions all the time on why Turkish towels are so special. We've decided to dedicate a page to this frequently asked question plus a few more that you may have been dying to know the answer to...

WHY ARE TURKISH TOWELS SO SPECIAL?

Turkish cotton is premium cotton that has extra long fibers. Using longer fiber cotton in spinning yarn means fewer joins. Fewer joins means stronger and smoother cotton threads. What does this all mean? Softer, fluffier towels which are even more absorbent with successive washings.

WHERE ARE THE PONCHOS MADE?

Turkish cotton is grown in the small but productive Aegean Region, next to the Mediterranean Sea. Our ponchos are made in an artisan workshop on looms that are hundreds of years old in Denizli, Turkey. Produced in Turkey, proudly designed in the United States.

HOW DO WE WASH OUR PONCHO?

Washing: Wash your poncho in cold water with less detergent than suggested. Avoid fabric softeners, which make the ponchos water repellent. If the poncho isn’t soft, it’s because soap is left in it. To remove the soap and soften the poncho, run the poncho through a regular washing cycle, then again with vinegar instead of soap (use 1 cup of WHITE vinegar).

Drying: We recommend air drying. If you must use your dryer (which can make the poncho extra cuddly and soft), know that it can damage the integrity of the cotton, so use the lowest heat setting and make it QUICK.

Absorbency: To maximize the absorbency of the poncho, add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle, about every size weeks, to restore the poncho to full absorbency.

Pulled Threads: All of our ponchos are woven, so don't worry, a pulled loop will not unravel the towel. If this does happen, cut off the pulled loop with a pair of sharp scissors.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER A DAY AT THE BEACH WITH MY PONCHO?

Rinse the poncho in fresh water and hang to dry.

HOW WILL THE PONCHO AGE?

The more you use the poncho, the softer and more absorbent it becomes. The strength of Turkish cotton and the traditional weaving technique means that it will be your best friend for a very long time.

WHERE SHOULD I WEAR MY PONCHO?

The better question is where shouldn't you wear it? We love to wear our poncho just about anywhere the sun shines… Galavanting at the beach. Enjoying a post-pool popsicle. Picnicking at the park. After swim lessons. Post-bath snuggles.
